PLANS to build 16 apartments on land in Darnhall School Lane have been given the green light.

The three-storey development will include eight one bedroom and eight two bedroom flats.

The land was formerly occupied by The Hollies nursing home, which closed in 2008 and was demolished the following year.

This formed part of a previous planning application to build 14 apartments on the 0.25-hectare brownfield site.

However the plans failed to progress and the land has been vacant for more than 10 years.

Applicant Paul Cook Developments has now been given the go-ahead to build on the site from Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Five objections were received from residents who fear noise and disturbance and believe the development would impact on neighbouring properties.

Planners rejected the claims and said the apartments would fit in with the surrounding area.

In a report, a planning officer said: "The development would provide a suitable relationship with neighbouring properties and would not result in a material amenity impact by reason of overlooking, loss of outlook or loss of light.

"The development would provide 100 per cent affordable housing and the mix of one and two bed flats would make an important contribution towards the

housing mix in the area, which is predominantly made up of houses. The layout, scale and design of the development would have a suitable relationship with neighbouring properties and would not harm the character of the area or the amenity of nearby residents."

The site will have parking spaces for 24 cars and 20 cycles.

Plans were approved subject to conditions.
