A SEXUAL deviant who preyed on young women across Headington has been jailed for 10 years.

During his eight-month reign of sexual terror Nelson Soares crept into one woman's home and took a nude selfie with her as she slept.

In another terrifying incident he was caught 'lurking in the shadows' of a woman's bedroom, and after he ran off traces of his semen were later found on the victim's bed.

The 28-year-old of Shelford Place, Oxford had already admitted a string of sexual offences.

He pleaded guilty to five counts of exposure, one count each of assault by penetration and voyeurism, and two counts of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.

Soares was jailed at Oxford Crown Court today for that spree of sex crimes that all took place between January and August last year.

Outlining the case prosecutor Jonathan Stone said the spate of crimes concerned 'disturbing and predatory behaviour' exacted upon young women, largely across Headington.

He detailed a number of incidents of exposure whereby Soares would openly masturbate in front of women who were walking by.

There were five such episodes detailed to the court.

Soares was also twice caught inside his victim's bedroom.

In one incident a woman, a university student, woke to find Soares 'spooning' her and he went on to sexually assault her during the episode.

Investigating officers would later discover an image on his mobile phone which transpired to be a selfie Soares had taken of him in bed with the sleeping woman, with her breasts exposed.

In another incident detailed to the court one victim woke up to find Soares 'lurking in the shadows' at the end of her bed.

She chased him off and police later discovered traces of Soares's semen on the woman's duvet.

Soares was only caught after he was arrested for an unrelated matter and a DNA test matched that of the sexual offences.

The court also heard victim personal statements in which the women - none of whom can be named - spoke of their fear and anger as a result of their ordeals.

A statement from Oxford Brookes University also said that some students had chosen to leave and stay with their families as a result of an increase in reports.

Prosecutors added that Soares was likely to be deported after his sentence.

In mitigation Farrhat Arshad called the offending 'opportunistic' and said her client had an IQ of just 63.

Before sentencing and referring to the selfie that Soares had taken of one woman, presiding Judge Ian Pringle QC said it was a 'grotesque invasion of an individual's privacy.'

He jailed Soares for 10 years, with an additional four-year period of extended licence. He will also sign the sex offenders register for life and pay a victim surcharge.
