FIREFIGHTERS remained at the scene of a fire in Wilmslow over night to bring it under control.

Three fire engines from Wythenshawe, Macclesfield and Wilmslow fire stations were dispatched to Burleyhurst Lane at 5.38 pm yesterday, Sunday.

On arrival, the crews found a large fire in the open involving around 70 bales of hay.

Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, while farm machinery was also used to help spread the hay out, making it easier to extinguish the fire.

Crews then used thermal imaging cameras to monitor the temperature of the hay and hand appliances to turn it over.

A further update issued by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service this morning, Monday, stated that firefighters remain in attendance at the scene, are still damping down the hay and are using thermal imaging cameras to check for any hotpots.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately, and anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101.
