OFFICES in Water Lane could soon be converted into 12 new apartments – but a new cafe will not be opening up as previously planned.

Osmium Estates has submitted a planning application to transform the office space above the Co-op.

The apartments would be on the first and second floor of the building, known as Whitecroft House.

If approved, it would prevent a mooted extension to the building for a new restaurant, which had been given planning permission by Cheshire East Council two years ago.

The building would include a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, and residents would use the existing office car park, with up to 37 spaces.

In its application Lichfields, representing the developer, said: "The change of use residential will not result in any adverse impacts in respect of transport and highways, contamination, flooding or noise."

Residents can comment on the plans until August 26, and CEC hopes to make a decision by September 18. See '20/3204M' on CEC's planning website.
