FAMILIES and staff of Egerton Primary School have cooked up a tasty read during the coronavirus lockdown.

The cookbook contains more than 50 child-friendly recipes, from homemade bread, lockdown pie, casseroles, stews and curries, including ‘Dad’s Curry, and Chicken Zorba, and delicious treats including cakes, cookies, banana bread and White Chocolate Oreo Fudge.

The cookbook project was the idea of Kim Rowland, reception teacher at Egerton Primary.

She said: “So many children learned to cook while away from school and shared some wonderful family times in the kitchen, experimenting and baking new recipes.

“We hope these books form part of our children’s history and become something that stays in their family for years to come.”

The cookbook has been produced in partnership with Waitrose Knutsford, which supported the contributors by holding a prize draw to pick 15 families at random who then won the ingredients for their recipes.

The money raised from the sales of the cookbook will be donated to three charities; The Toy Appeal, The Welcome and VisYon.

Alison Hooper, headteacher, said: “We know the charities our cookbook is supporting have been working even harder than usual on a daily basis during the pandemic, and have not been able to do their usual fundraising activities. Our motto is ‘If we can make a difference, we should’.

Knutsford Guardian:

“So not only has the cookbook created a lasting memory for our children, the money we can donate to the charities raised by the cookbook sales will also leave a positive legacy of their time during lockdown, whether they have contributed a family recipe or bought a copy of the book and tried the recipes at home.”

Dee Drake of The Toy Appeal said: “The Toy Appeal are absolutely thrilled to be supported by this wonderful initiative from Egerton Primary School, who are such big supporters of The Toy Appeal.

“We cannot wait to buy our copy and start trying some of the recipes.”
