FAMILY and friends of Natalie Lyons were able to give her a fitting send-off thanks to the generosity of members of the public.

A fundraiser was set up last week to cover funeral costs for the mum of two from Weaverham, who sadly passed away after a two-year breast cancer battle.

The 32-year-old’s funeral was held on Friday, with friends and residents lining the streets in tribute as she made her way to her burial in a horse drawn carriage.

And although the number of people allowed at the graveside was limited to 20 due to coronavirus restrictions, many gathered at the gates to pay their respects.

“It was a lovely send-off, but also very sad at the same time,” explained Natalie Hulse – one of Natalie’s friends who set up the fundraiser.

“Everyone was out on the streets and a lot of people were stood right outside at the gates, so that was nice for her family.”

On Sunday, a number of fundraising events were held outside Natalie’s home on Lime Avenue in Weaverham, including a cake sale and raffle.

Friends and family also completed a sponsored walk to Pickmere, with all proceeds raised going towards funeral costs and providing for her young family’s future.

After adding everything up, organisers were able to exceed their target of £3,000 and wanted to thank everyone who turned up on the day to make the occasion so special.

“The cake sale and raffle went amazing and we had people queuing up to get involved, which was brilliant,” Natalie continued.

“The cakes were brilliant and everyone was stopping in their cars. We saw loads of people that we didn’t know.

Family and friends set off on the seven mile sponsored walk to Pickmere

“We originally planned to walk from Weaverham to Knutsford, but we decided to change this to Pickmere as it was a nicer journey, and 17 of us took part.

“It was hard and we all have blisters today, but the sun was shining and it was lovely. We all did it, met up at the Red Lion pub and had a bit of a cry afterwards.

“After totting everything up, we were able to raise £850 from the cake sale and raffle, meaning raised around £3,200 in total, which we are more than happy with.”
