BUSINESS is booming for one town centre hairdressers which has had a successful weekend after reopening.

Crate Hair, on Crown Street, joined thousands of hairdressers across the country in reopening their doors after coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

Customers can now make bookings, with Crate opening on an appointment-only basis for the time being, and must abide to stringent measures to ensure their safety and the safety of staff.

But this has not deterred people from filling up appointment slots to rectify home haircut disasters during the lockdown.

“It’s been good and really busy since we reopened,” said co-owner Charles Rose.

“We have 45-minute appointment slots in which we spend 30 minutes on people’s hair and then 15 minutes of cleaning ready for the next appointment.

“Staff are getting used to wearing visors and the masks, as are clients, who have been great and are happy to wear masks all the time.

“We’ve said that everybody needs to wear a mask and everyone has been happy to do so.”

Other measures that customers must abide to is using hand sanitiser before and after entering the shop and signing a self-declaration form.

This involves simple questions as part of the NHS Track and Trace scheme, with answers kept on file for the required 21 days before being destroyed.

“We’re appointment-only at the minute so we can monitor everyone who comes in here,” Charles added.

“We’re fully booked for about three weeks, which is great, and we’re trying to fit everyone in.

“It means we’re working longer hours – 8am to 8pm – but we’re hoping to be back to normal hours in two weeks’ time.”
