MORE than 110 people entered the scarecrow competition run by the Oswaldtwistle Civic Arts Theatre.

But the wait is finally over as Millie and Finley Barlow, of Fielding Lane, Oswaldtwistle, were named as the winners for their Peter Rabbit-inspired scarecrow.

Gayle Knight, creative director at the arts centre, said: “One night I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a village somewhere else in the country was holding a competition.

“I asked our community if they would like us to organise a competition, and within minutes it took off.

“We gave people two weeks to send us pictures and then organised an online vote.”

Millie and Finley’s scarecrow was an outright winner of the vote. White Ash Brook Care Home in Oswaldtwistle took the group prize.

Highly-commended prizes were also given to 16 of the entries.

Studio Retail donated 20 boxes of Quality Street, J2A donated a pamper session for two people, Friends of Rhyddings Park donated a meal for 10 people, and A Cake Occasion, Arena, Perfect Plaice, Visions of Beauty, Civic Arts Centre, White Bull, Tap Select, Hyndburn Leisure, Sugarplums all donated vouchers or prizes.
