AN illegal rave is being planned to take place in Knutsford this weekend, according to police.

Knutsford Police has issued a plea to the public on Facebook, stating they have information to suggest a rave will be taking place in the Knutsford area.

Police say extra patrols will be deployed to the area but they are appealing to the public to help keep them informed on the whereabouts.

A spokesman for Knutsford Police said: "There is information to suggest that a rave will be taking place within the #Knutsford area this weekend. Numerous officers are out on patrol across the area checking in on hotspots.

"If you have any information as to where this is taking place please call us on 101."

It comes after numerous illegal raves have taken place in the Cheshire and Greater Manchester area in recent weeks.

Two raves in around Manchester two weeks ago saw thousands of people descend on areas in Carrington and Daisy Nook and resulted in the drug overdose death of a 20-year-old man, an alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman, and three stabbings.

But despite all this, these raves seemed to have sparked a trend which continued last weekend across the north west and police believe plans are in place for similar scenes to occur in Knutsford this weekend.

Call Cheshire Police on 101 with any information you may have.
