LYMM Festival has given £1,000 to Lymm Heritage Centre to support their work on researching and promoting the heritage of the village.

In recognition of social distancing, the cheque was handed over on the end of a salt-worker’s rake.

Chairman of Lymm Festival Ian Marks said: “As a charity we are severely restricted as to how we spend our money.

“We have two ‘objects’ in our constitution.

“The first one is to advance the arts for the public benefit and the second one is to advance the education of the public in the heritage of Lymm.

“Supporting the Heritage Centre is an excellent way of meeting our second ‘object’.

“The centre has done some remarkable work in the few years it has been open.

“But like everything else, its finances have been badly hit by the pandemic, which has engulfed us all.

“We are very pleased to be able to make a contribution towards their work.”

Chair of the trustees of Lymm Heritage Centre, Alan Williams adds, “It has certainly been tough for small charities like ours over the past few months.

“But we have continued to work creatively, developing the online picture archive of Lymm thelymmarchive.co.uk.

“We have also had teams working on new exhibits and books so that we will have fresh offerings for when we reopen.

“We greatly appreciate the support of the festival which will be used to finance more new local heritage initiatives over the coming year and help bring visitors back to Lymm”.

The popular annual festival was cancelled earlier this year due to the pandemic.

Held in the second half of June it offers a celebration of the arts at venues across Lymm.

While it has not taken place this year, many events including music and poetry have been held virtually.
