THERE have now been more than 2,500 confirmed cases of coronavirus across Cheshire East and West boroughs.

Across Cheshire West, which includes Northwich and Winsford, 1,211 people had tested positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Tuesday, June 16 – an increase of 20 on the same time last week.

Meanwhile in Cheshire East, including Knutsford, Wilmslow and Middlewich, 1,309 people had tested positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Tuesday – 40 more than the same time last week.

That takes the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus across both boroughs to 2,520.

In both boroughs, the rate of increase was less than 0.5 per cent from 9am on Monday to 9am on Tuesday, which is on a par with the national average.

For Cheshire West, the weekly increase of new cases has halved in the past week, as 40 new cases were confirmed between June 2 and 9, compared to 20 between June 9 and 16.

However, the weekly increase is greater in Cheshire East, as 28 new cases were confirmed between June 2 and 9 compared to 40 between June 9 and 16.

Residents are urged to continue to follow the public health guidelines – staying home as much as possible, washing hands for 20 seconds regularly and keeping two metres apart from other households.
