FOR content writer Richard Taylor, working with words from the comfort of his own home has long been a way of life.

And since lockdown began, the 31-year-old from Winnington has had a little bit more time to put his written talents to use on a personal project.

He’s just self-published his first book, a humorous take on daily life in lockdown titled Diary of a Lockdown Inmate.

Richard, who runs Sh! Communications, says the diary first came about as a series of social media posts, initially for his own amusement.

He said: “The plan was to do the odd day here and there, but they developed quite a following, a following who urged me to make them a daily occurrence. The idea to publish and turn it into a book came from members of the very same following. I’d not given this any consideration at the beginning, but as the weeks went by, it seemed more and more like a good idea, so I thought I'd give it a go and see what happened next.”

“It was a fairly straightforward process, once I had edited and formatted, it was then sent to a company who printed the hard copies and shipped them to me a week or so later. Having never done anything like this before, it was very much uncharted waters, but a very interesting experience. Once the physical copies arrived with me, I was beyond excited, in a way it was like Christmas morning again.”

Richard is donating a portion of the proceeds to the NHS – £1 from every copy, plus anything extra at the buyer's request.

He said: “The idea came from seeing so many other wonderful people doing their bit to help during the crisis, and I wanted to do something, even if it was only a small contribution."
