AN AWARD-winning theatre society is to perform a West End musical in Hartford next spring.

Runcorn-based The Zodiac is inviting everyone to become maniacs on the dancefloor next year when it brings the critically acclaimed Flashdance The Musical to The Grange Theatre.

The Zodiac, which has members from across Cheshire, is the first amateur group to receive the rights to perform Flashdance The Musical in the north west and will bring it to Hartford in April 2021.

The show is based on the 1983 movie of the same name, which follows the story of steelworker Alex Owens as she auditions to get into the prestigious Shipley Academy to follow her dream of becoming a professional dancer.

The musical retains many of the best-loved moments from the film, such as the songs ‘Maniac’, ‘Manhunt’ and ‘What a feeling’, as well as the famous audition scene and iconic water-drop moment.

Jude Kenyon, chair of The Zodiac, said: “It’s a very exciting time for us as we are the first amateur group in the north west, and, at this moment in time the second in the UK, to secure the rights to perform this visually-stunning musical.

“This means we will be able to put The Zodiac stamp on it, and as an award-winning group that celebrated its 50th Anniversary two years ago, we are confident we will put on a show of West End standard.

“Auditions will take place in November and will be advertised on our social channels, but we would advise that interested parties get in touch now via chairman@zaos.org.uk.

“We welcome anyone who wants to take part, whether performing or helping out with the production.”
