A MAJOR and much-loved festival of music and arts in Goostrey scheduled for this autumn has been cancelled because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The two-week festival was due to be held in October, but will not take place due to the uncertainties surrounding the pandemic.

However, much of the schedule which was planned for 2020 has been lifted and re-booked for October 2021, when Goosfest organisers hope to run a packed programme.

Goosfest chairman Bill Ollier said: “Unfortunately, the ongoing uncertainties around venue availability and continued social distancing meant that we had no option but to cancel this year’s Goosfest. Some of the performers had also indicated they would prefer not to perform this year.

“On the plus side, the majority of this year’s acts were able to confirm bookings for October 2021, so we’re now well on with organising next year’s festival, which will take place from Friday, October 1, 2021, to Sunday, October 17.

“The decision to cancel Goosfest 2020 wasn’t taken lightly, but for all sorts of Covid-19-related reasons we were left with little choice. We appreciate that there will be disappointment, and apologise to our many supporters, who were looking forward to booking tickets for some of the fantastic headline acts already announced.

“But we hope to exceed all expectations when we’re able to announce the full 2021 schedule in due course.”
