A NIGHT at the theatre may be off the cards for the foreseeable - but work is still continuing behind the scene's at Rhyl's theatres.

While the doors of the Rhyl Little Theatre remain closed, regular partners the Wicked Cinema are hard at work giving the historic venue a makeover.

With June events such as ART Theatre's Breakout and Rory Jackson as Michael Jackson cancelled, the volunteers of the community cinema are building on their work which has seen them refurbish the box office, the toilets and the foyer as well as planting the garden.

Rhiannon Hughes, cinema volunteer said: "We continue to decorate and improve the Little Theatre during this period as well and hopefully when the doors reopen it will be the same but cleaner, brighter, a little warmer and safe."

The group are also seeking to greet their first theatr goers after lockdown with a film made by the community, and are currently looking for people to submit two minute films or photographs telling their story of lockdown in Rhyl.

The film will be made alongside plans for the group's annual International Youth Film Festival which will take place between Wednesday, October until Sunday, November 1 and screens movies from around the world.

Similarly, works are planned at the Pavilion theatre for the refurbishment of the first floor toilets.

While Denbighshire Leisure have indicated that some of the group’s fitness facilities may open as lock down eases, the next show at the theatre is due to take place in early September.

Following an initial raft of cancellations, ticket holders will have to wait for new dates for the Linzi Grace School of Dance’s Dance Fusion on July 11, Shrek on August 6 and TIC’s We Will Rock You on August 13.

The next event still listed is Ultimate 90s vs 00s Anthems on September 4.
