THERE were smiles all round last Friday as families marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day – when the Second World War came to an end in Europe.

While the lockdown meant communities were not able to come together in the way they usually would to mark the occasion, residents still got the bunting out and enjoyed VE Day parties at home.

Some held street parties from front gardens – with residents being sure to keep at a two-metre distance – while households were encouraged to dress up, sing along to wartime classics and enjoy a picnic.

And the weather played its part too, as Cheshire basked in glorious sunshine over the bank holiday weekend, keeping the community's spirits up while the coronavirus pandemic carries on.
