SPEED enforcement is to resume in Knutsford to tackle drivers taking advantage of the reduced traffic on the roads as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.

Current government advice is to avoid all non-essential travel, and to leave home for only very limited purposes.

Police Community Support Officer Chris Pountain has been a regular sight on local roads recording the speed of traffic, with 66 drivers caught speeding last month in Northwich Road, Tabley Road and Legh Road.

PCSO Pountain said: "Unfortunately, some drivers seem to be taking advantage of the now quieter roads.

"The emergency services are already stretched, so could do without you crashing and taking up essential services. In light of this I will be back out with the TruCam."

He is asking residents to suggest any roads they would like the police to monitor for the speed of traffic.

Suggestions can be left by the public in the comments section on the Knutsford Police Beat Facebook page.
