BUSINESSES in Knutsford and Wilmslow have begun accessing millions of pounds from the Government to help them during the coronavirus pandemic.

The first wave of funds is being distributed by Cheshire East Council this week.

Around 8,000 businesses in the borough are also set to be supported, and CEC says that by the time they have all received the cash, it will have handed over close to £90 million.

Cllr Amanda Stott, CEC cabinet member for finance, IT and communications, said: “This is incredibly important grant funding and it offers a crucial lifeline to our local businesses during the significant challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"CEC has one of the largest and most vibrant business sectors in the country and fantastic entrepreneurs – and I am proud that Cheshire East Council is playing its part in helping to support them and protect our local economy and jobs."

Two new grant schemes are being funded by the Government in response to the pandemic, covering three scenarios:

  • A small business grant fund of £10,000 for all businesses in receipt of small business rate relief, and
  • Grant funding of £10,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property –where the rateable value is below £15,000, or
  • Grant funding of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property – where the rateable value is between £15,000 and less than £51,000.
