PLANS to convert Mode Cottage next to Mobberley Primary School from educational to residential use have sparked opposition from residents and Mobberley Parish Council.

Cheshire East Council is seeking approval to change the use of the building in Church Lane, but the application has attracted numerous objections from residents, who say the cottage could be better used by the school.

Mobberley Parish Council opposed the application on the grounds the school was at full capacity and might need to expand in the future.

The council said: “If this property is converted to residential use there is no room to expand the school. Parking spaces would also be compromised.

“The council have received a large volume of verbal objections to the proposal.”

A resident from Edenfield Road said: “Surely this site would be better given to the school on site. The school isn't big enough to support the capacity of children it already has.

“This would make a great space for them to run a breakfast and after-school club, and used as a learning centre during the day.”

A resident from Townfield Road objected, stating: “Can I ask why this is being sold off when the school is already generally oversubscribed?”

A resident from Mardon Close in Knutsford said: “My children go to the primary school, and it seems like a poor choice to turn it into a residential area when the school doesn't have enough space.

A resident from Summerfield Road said: “Mobberley Primary School is really struggling for space. As class sizes have risen and will go on rising it has become very evident that space is at a premium.

“To have Mode Cottage become part of school would be fantastic, and an obvious move.”
