CHILDREN are being invited to give PC Paddington a wave as he patrols Knutsford with the police during the coronavirus lockdown.

Paddington Bear is on patrol with PCSO Chris Pountain, who invited the world-famous bear along to join in the nationwide fun whereby people put teddy bears in their windows for children to spot.

The idea was inspired by Michael Rosen’s classic children’s book, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.

PCSO Pountain said: “The idea came from seeing it trending on Twitter.

“Obviously with everything going on at the moment we thought it would be a nice thing to do to try and engage with the children.

“The bear is owned by Special Constable Gilbertson who supports us in Knutsford.

“We will be taking PC Paddington out with us when we are on patrol, and if you see us give us a wave.

“Similar to the elf we had at Christmas he will appear in pictures taking part in our activities.

“The general response has been positive; we have had a few negative comments on Twitter, but overall the public seem to like the idea.”

Michael Rosen is in hospital with suspected coronavirus.
