KNUTSFORD Scouts are turning to online meetings to keep in touch and take part in activities during the coronavirus lockdown.

Sophie Mather from Knutsford Scouts said: “A few weeks ago leaders from across Knutsford and Mobberley came together to welcome our new District Commissioner, Neil McAleece.

"There was a real buzz in the atmosphere as leaders got excited about what was to come for their groups.

“With the suspension of face-to-face Scouting nationally just a week later, a new challenge was created - how can we continue providing Scouting to our members during this time.”

She said across the district leaders had rallied to develop interesting and creative ways of ensuring Scouting could continue. Many groups had hosted online meetings and planned activities to keep the young people occupied at home.

She said: “Online meetings have given young people chance to see and talk to their friends, as well as take part in activities and maintain part of their weekly routine.

“Feedback from parents has been fantastic, with many saying it was their child’s favourite part of the day.

"We hope to continue to provide Scouting to as many of our members as possible during this time and the leaders are constantly coming up with new ideas and challenges.”
