MORE than 2,400 jobs are at risk after rent-to-own retailer BrightHouse fell into administration.
The company – which operates around 240 stores nationally, including one on Sankey Street in the town centre – was placed into receivership today, Monday.
Administrator Grant Thornton has been appointed in order to keep the business operational and collect money from customers.
Consumers will still be able to get their appliances looked after by BrightHouse – operating as Caversham Trading Limited – until their contracts run out, at which point the company will wind up.
But there will be no new rent-to-own sales.
Grant Thornton says it will ‘continue to trade the businesses in line with government guidance’.
The administrator added: "The logistics and engineering business of Caversham Trading Limited will continue to assist in dealing with those customers who have claims for essential home item repairs and will continue deliveries of smaller items to customers' doorsteps to ensure, where possible, customers' products remain in working order."
