TATTON MP Esther McVey has welcomed support for the thousands of self-employed people across the area who will now be offered Government help.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced yesterday his package of support for the self-employed.
Ms McVey said yesterday: “I am delighted Rishi has now made it clear that there is help available for self-employed people as I know many people have been concerned and in touch with me.
“I wrote to the Chancellor last week urging support for these hard-working people, and it is right Government has acted.
“I am pleased one of the announcements including one of the measures I suggested including a level playing field of paying up to 80 per cent of profit up to £2,500 a month as we are doing for businesses.
“Everyone needs to be supported through this difficult time, and it is right we offer the self-employed help as we have done for businesses.
“People have contacted me concerned about how they will pay their bills and I hope today’s announcement will help reassure them, there is help available to them.
“I understand some people will still be worried, and these measures will still leave some self-employed in a very difficult position. It is impossible for the Government to cover everything, but this puts the overwhelming majority of self-employed people in a far better position that last week.”
Ms McVey wrote to the Chancellor last week urging him to offer packages to the self-employed like those offered to businesses, which pay a percentage of the salary up to a maximum amount per month.
