SUPPORT group founder Claire Sawyer is urging Knutsford people to 'hunker down' to 'help break the chain' of coronavirus transmission.

Claire made her appeal after volunteers delivered 5,000 leaflets yesterday (Saturday) to homes across the town to publicise the new We Are Knutsford COVID-19 Support Group.

She said on the group's Facebook page: "As a direct result of today's (Saturday) leafletting we have helped four people in the town with real practical advice, and given encouragement to thousands that they are not alone.

"The easy part is done - Knutsford is ready - we have the support structure in place through our WeAreKnutsford initiative, Boris has finally turned the screw on large gatherings and places where people congregate and spread germs, but the hard part is yet to come.

"We must now retreat and hunker down at home, going out only to conduct urgent business, shopping, medical appointments, or if you are a key worker (God bless you) go to work and keep us safe warm and fed.

"12 weeks enforced stay at home is hard - we will get bored, fight and some may get depressed, people who are completely self-isolated will get fed up of asking for help, some of you will get fed up of giving it.

"But we must do it; to put it simply - it is wreckless and selfish not to. Every person that stays home breaks the chain of transmission. Every person that doesn't risks spreading this.

Knutsford Guardian:

"If you are an older person who feels invincible, there are 233 families in this country grieving tonight, and that number will rise; do you want your family to be statistic next month because of your stubbornness?

"For the young: if you are out wandering the streets, and I've seen a lot this evening walking up Higher Downs; please read this.

"Mr Tedros of the WHO yesterday said: 'Although older people are hardest hit, younger people are not spared'.

"He added: 'I have a message for young people: You are not invincible, this virus could put you in hospital for weeks or even kill you.

"Even if you don't get sick the choices you make about where you go could be the difference between life and death for someone else'.

"For the rest of us - Give your mum the best Mother's Day present you can and stay away.

"Pin your leaflet where you can see it; stay safe, keep your family safe, protect the NHS; we can do this because #WeAreKnutsford."
