A PAIR of nine-year-old twins are set for another 100km challenge in aid of Warrington Hospital.

Ruben and Elena Evans-Guillen, from Padgate, ran 100km during 2018 in order to raise £15,000 for a refurbishment of the children's ward play area at the Lovely Lane site.

This year the pair are embarking on a similar challenge, trekking the same distance with parents Mark and Mercedes to drum up funds for a new children's and adolescent's mental health room at the hospital.

Mark said: "The target is £10,000 for the CAMH room.

"Currently the counselling room is in much need of some renovation which would make a huge difference to the young patients.

"New furniture, flooring and lighting would transform the room into a calm and pleasant space so that young people are able to feel more at ease facing their challenges in this safe, private environment.

"Both Ruben and Elena live with ADHD.

"Their previous 100km run and this year’s trek help manage their symptoms by challenging their hyperactivity and improving their overall sense of mental balance and wellbeing.

"It also gives them increased self-esteem and a strong sense of community values."

Ruben and Elena's challenge will include charity walks, walking festivals and obstacle courses.

Warrington and Halton Hospitals Charity manager Helen Higginson said: "We are yet again humbled by the passion and dedication of our young ambassadors who continue to make a difference for other children.

"The continued support of our partners like Persimmon Homes North West means we are able to continue our work to provide the ‘above and beyond’ care and facilities that make a difference for our young patients and their families.

"This support helps make dreams a reality."

Housebuilder Persimmon Homes North West has donated £1,000 towards Ruben and Elena's fundraising target.

Sales director Dave Hodgson added: "We are delighted to again contribute to Ruben and Elena’s campaign to raise money for such a worthwhile charity – they are a real inspiration."
