SCOUTING For Girls will headline the Friday night concert at Middlewich's Folk and Boat Festival this year.

The chart-topping, four-times Brit-nominated band will mark the 30th anniversary of the festival, supported on Friday, June 19 by X Factor star Lucy Spraggan, local band The Moondogz and FAB favourites The Electric Swing Circus.

The Saturday night concert, ticketed for the first time, is an 80s party night starring punk princess Toyah Willcox, Kirkby band China Crisis, and tribute band Electro 80s.

A free Sunday night concert will end the festival in style, as Dave Finnegan’s Commitments headline supported by festival favourites Thrill Collins, who will be treating the audience to their lively skiffle-style music.

Sunday night’s audience can also enjoy the Old Time Sailors, who will take the audience on a ‘folk musical flash mob’ journey back in time through the 19th century.

Once again, the festival will feature a host of entertainment at fringe venues in and around Middlewich.

This year will see a dedicated folk stage on Saturday, June 20 located at Middlewich Royal British Legion Club. Entry to the folk stage will be free until 5pm on Saturday night, when a special ticketed concert will take place.

Middlewich Town Council events manager Dave Thompson said: “This will be our 30th festival and every year we aim to build on the success of the last event and make it the best we can offer, to showcase our fabulous town and its waterways.

"In the coming weeks we will also be announcing further special anniversary concerts plus the Folk and Boat Ceilidh."

Following feedback from recent years' events, changes have been made to secure the future of the festival.

Cllr Jonathan Parry, of Middlewich Town Council, said: “Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival wants to deliver the best festival for the people of Middlewich.

"To achieve this, we need to attract the best possible artists. Last year resulted in a loss as income didn’t cover the costs.

“This year we aim to deliver a bigger and better festival with great acts. This means we must start charging for the Saturday night concert.

Knutsford Guardian:

“We cannot continue running at a loss as it jeopardises the future of the festival. By implementing a very fair and reasonable charge for the Saturday, it secures the future of Folk and Boat and allows us to deliver a very enjoyable weekend.

“All of the main stage Sunday performances remain free of charge, as does Saturday daytime from 11am through to 4pm.”

Camping is available for visitors wishing to stay overnight and plans for a park and ride scheme are almost complete.

This year`s Floating Market is already fully booked, and we expect a record attendance of colourful narrowboats boats coming for the Boat Rally.
