LEFTWICH students have enjoyed an insight into the innovative world of engineering as part of British Science Week.

Fifteen Year 10 pupils from The County High School, Leftwich were given the chance to visit Cygnet Texkimp in Wincham on Tuesday.

The company opened up its design and manufacturing facility, where it engineers large-scale machines to process technical fibres used in lightweight car and aeroplane parts.

Pupils met Cygnet Texkimp’s latest cohort of apprentices, who are completing three-year apprenticeships in engineering, logistics, and business administration as part of the company’s successful programme.

They also took part in a hands-on engineering challenge with Cygnet Texkimp’s sister company Secc Oil and Gas, to assemble a hydraulic pipeline connector used in the oil and gas industry.

British Science Week, which began on March 6 and runs until March 15, is an annual celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths.

Cygnet Texkimp’s Karen Whitehouse said: “As a local employer, it’s really important to us to have a good relationship with our local schools and to play our part in inspiring the next generation of science and engineering professionals.

Northwich Guardian:

“We’ve had a great morning with pupils from Leftwich High School and hope we’ve motivated some of them to pursue their studies and careers in our industry.”
