FIVE girls are in line to be chosen to represent Goostrey as the village’s Rose Queen for 2020.

The new Queen will be chosen by a panel of independent judges at the Village Hall tomorrow (Saturday).

On the same day the traditional party for village children will be held. This is seen as a ‘thank you’ from the Roseday Committee to the children who regularly take part in the annual event.

The names of the 10 Rose Bud Queen candidates will be put in a hat and the winner will be drawn out by the 2019 Rose Queen Casey Wakefield, ably assisted by this year’s Rose Day President Stewart Smallwood.

Christina Burgess, chair of the organising committee, said: “Rose Day is an important day in Goostrey and to be Rose Queen is something very special. I am delighted that the young people in the village are helping to carry on the tradition.

“As well as playing a key part in Goostrey Rose Day on 27 June, the Queen also represents the village at other events around the area.”
