WORK on a new support centre for those affected by childhood cancer is coming along – but the Joshua Tree is still in need of donations.

The charity is currently fitting out its new, purpose-built support centre in Sandiway after 13 years of fundraising.

Once completed, the building will provide a dedicated space for children with cancer and their families to spend quality time together.

And to help with the project, longstanding supporter Persimmon has popped a cheque for almost £1,000 in the post – along with a note saying 'surprise!'.

The housebuilder has backed the charity, founded by Lynda and Dai Hill after their son Joshua was diagnosed with cancer as a child, for many years.

He said: “We are so proud to be associated with The Joshua Tree and everyone at Persimmon Homes North West has contributed in some way to raising money for this inspirational charity.”

The £932 was raised through a series of 'dress down Friday' events at the company's Urmston office.

Pippa Watson-Peck, fundraising manager at The Joshua Tree, said: “It is amazing to see Persimmon still supporting The Joshua Tree after many years.

“Every penny really does make a difference and as we have recently taken ownership of the new support centre. There is still work to be done with the completion of the interior decorating and fit out.

“The money raised will certainly help us add the finishing touches to enable us to provide a tranquil space for families affected by childhood cancers.”
