AN exhibition at two Warrington venues is raising awareness of the prejudice faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities and how the Pride movement came about.
You can catch ‘From Prejudice to Pride’ at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub until Saturday before it moves to Warrington Library from March 5 to 12. The poster exhibition also acts as a potted history that tells the LGBT story in Cheshire from the the beginning of the 19th century to present day and how things have changed.
The event will also be supported by two free social events called ‘Tea and Tattle’ where people can drop in and enjoy a brew and a chat with no need to book.
The first of these is being held on Thursday from 6pm to 7pm at Orford, which will also see Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s ‘rainbow fire engine’ stationed outside Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub.
The second is at Warrington Library next Thursday, March 5, from 11.30am to 1pm.
The exhibitions have been organised as part of a partnership between LiveWire’s community librarians team, Body Positive, a Cheshire-based sexual health charity, and Silver Rainbows, a social network for older LGBT people in the area.
Wendy Molyneux, LiveWire’s strategic library manager, said: “Our libraries are for everyone – offering a safe and welcoming environment. We are pleased to host the From Prejudice to Pride exhibition and Tea and Tattle sessions to promote tolerance.”
