A HAIR and beauty salon has vowed to ditch ‘toxic’ gossip magazines after the death of presenter Caroline Flack.

Coco Hair & Beauty in Dalton Road, Barrow, is swapping tabloid magazines for publications promoting personal growth, wellbeing, and kindness to advocate positive messages to their clients.

The salon felt inspired to ditch gossip magazines after the death of Love Island presenter Caroline Flack who previously received a tirade of negative press coverage.

Manager Jo Grainger saw the idea online and staff unanimously decided to ditch the ‘damaging’ magazines.

“We saw the idea shared online and had discussed getting rid of them before so just decided to do it,” she said.

“The way these magazines shame celebrities and expose personal aspects of their life is just toxic.

“It’s bound to have a negative impact on its readers, especially if you’re not mentally strong enough.”

In lieu of the magazines, Coco Hair & Beauty has brought in mindfulness colouring books, home and decor publications, lifestyle magazines and more.

“We will only supply positive magazines providing personal growth, decor, food, fashion, hair inspiration, health and wellbeing,” said Mrs Grainger.

“If it’s your personal preference to read a gossip magazine then you can freely bring your own, however we want to help and will no longer provide such a magazine for your perusal during your time at the salon.”

Mrs Grainger said Caroline Flack’s death was the turning point for the salon to ditch the magazines and focus on personal growth instead.

She said: “If everyone stopped buying that trash, they would stop publishing it.

“If you read about a celeb having cellulite, it makes you start criticising your own body which is harmful.

“We feel it’s time we all make a difference.

“We want everyone who visits Coco to be surrounded with positivity.

“We know this doesn’t stop online nasty comments and trolling but we want to help.

“We want the best for our clients and our staff.”
