A DISABILITY charity has opened a new mobility equipment store at Birchwood Shopping Centre.

The Mayor of Warrington Cllr Wendy Johnson officially opened Warrington Disability Partnership’s Mobility and Independent Living Solutions Store, assisted by nine-year-old Leon Hoey – a young Warrington Wolves physical disability rugby league team who has cerebral palsy.

It adds to the charity’s shops at the Centre for Independent Living in Sankey Bridges, Golden Square Shopping Centre, Warrington Hospital and the Lifehouse in Liverpool – as well as its Shopmobility services in the town centre and Liverpool city centre.

Chief executive and co-founder Dave Thompson described it as ‘another exciting step in the development’ of the Disability Trading Company.

He added: “None of our team are driven by incentivised sales, there’s no hard sell.

“Our team provide information, advice and guidance on mobility and independent living products – only selling what is right for the customer.

“Most of our staff and volunteers have a disability or long-term health condition and our Disability Trading Company is owned and run by Warrington Disability Partnership, with all profits helping to subsidise WDP’s charitable services.

“The new Birchwood store offers a wide range of products to aid independence for disabled people.

“WDP would like to thank Birchwood Shopping Centre manager Chris Gribben for his outstanding support.”

Located close to the entrance of the shopping centre near to Aldi and Argos, the new store stocks equipment including mobility scooters, stairlifts and wheelchairs while home assessments can be arranged.
