VILLAGERS have chosen Alison Wright as their Community Hero in the Dane Sound Community Radio awards.

The 2019 Hero Awards recognise people who have made a positive impact on the community, with Alison receiving The People’s Choice award, which was voted on by villagers.

Alison’s nominee said: “Alison is active in the community with boundless enthusiasm and energy. She is a lynchpin in the community, and we are all richer in spirit for her contribution.”

Bella Mac won the Young Hero Award. Her nomination said: “Bella is involved in many community projects,

suggesting and implementing an enrichment scheme for sixth formers at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School.

“She visits The Cedars Care home in Holmes Chapel and participates in activities with them.

“She has raised £500 for MacMillan through the NCS scheme, raised awareness of environmental issues and is the chair of Holmes Chapel Youth Council.

“Bella also organised and marketed the first Holmes Chapel Youth Cinema. She is an inspiration and a great role model.”

The Individual Hero Award went to Martine Nicholson, whose nomination said: “Martine volunteers with the Toy Appeal and puts together the Christmas sacks for the children with special needs.

“The Toy Appeal would be lost without her. She’s our hero. Martine also plays a major part in helping with Goostrey Rose Festival.”

The award for Outstanding Contribution was awarded to Jess Williams and her family.

The nomination said: “My friend is Jessica Williams. Shortly after I met Jess her dad was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.

"Since then Jess and her family have been inspirational. They have raised £32,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity.

"They have turned such a sad time of their lives into a positive experience determined to help others in memory of Rob."

Mike Street received the Unsung Hero award. His nomination said: “Mike, a parish councillor, listens to residents’ problems and ensures they are dealt with no matter what day of the week it is.

“Mike goes the extra mile with everything he is involved in. He makes the village a better place.”

Dane Sound congratulated the winners and thanked the community for nominating and voting, as well as the sponsors for their support.
