2056 Knutsford Squadron ATC Cpl Ellis Brennan is one of two cadets in the Greater Manchester Wing to be nominated by North Region for an RAF Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship Application.

A squadron spokesman said: "Subject to final confirmation, Tayside Aviation will be in contact with the Cpl Brennan to arrange for his attendance at Dundee Airport later this year to begin residential theory and practical flying training. A great start towards achieving his private pilot's licence.

"It all began back in April 2017, when Ellis, at the age of 13, started flying gliders with the help and support of the instructors at the Derbyshire and Lancashire Flying Club.

Knutsford Guardian:

"On his first day his instructor was Alan Jolly, who had also been an air cadet. Although flying with many of the other club instructors it was in May 2019 that Ellis was sent solo in a Puchacz by Alan, and on his next flight soared for 15 minutes.

"This qualified him for the Federation Aeronautique Internationale UK Gliding Certificate - Solo - issued by the British Gliding Association.

"In December 2019 Ellis was jointly awarded, with another junior member of the club, the new Nigel Howes Memorial Trophy for outstanding achievement as a junior member. To be followed in January this year with the award of his air cadet 'C' (civilian) wings.

"An impressive and outstanding achievement made at one of only five hill gliding sites in the UK. And still he is only 15; very well done Ellis."
