HISTORY lecturer Dr Bess Rhodes has launched her new book on the Scottish Reformation.

Dr Rhodes, from Bottom Street, Knutsford, launched Riches and Reform at St Mary's College Hall at St Andrews University in Scotland.

Dr Rhodes teaches at St Andrews University, and is Head of Historical Research for the digital heritage team Smart History.

Her book is a study of the Scottish Reformation, focusing particularly on the events in St Andrews, which was then the most important religious centre in Scotland, and their effects on the economy and functioning of the city.

Knutsford Guardian:

Dr Rhodes at the book launch

Its cathedral and friaries were destroyed, and it became a backwater until the increasing importance of golf brought it into the public eye once more.

The launch party was attended by a large number of professors and scholars of Reformation history.

It was held in St Mary’s College Hall, which dates from the time of the Reformation and has furniture from that period.

Bridget Heal, Professor of History at St Andrews, who made a short speech, described the book as 'definitive'.
