A MAN has been arrested for possessing a firearm without a licence..
According to police, a man was driving on Ulverston's Canal Street when he was stopped by officers at around 5am on Monday.
Officers confirmed a 57-year-old Barrow man was arrested after the routine search was carried out.
Following the arrest two house were searched, in Dalton's Eskdale Close and Whitehead Close in Barrow.
Both of properties were searched by officers on Monday morning.
A spokeswoman for Cumbria Police said the man has been released under investigation.
Police there was no perceived threat to the community following the incident.
The spokeswoman said: "Police stopped a vehicle on the January 27 at 5am on Canal Street, Ulverston.
She added: "A 57-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a certificate and released under investigation."
