A TEENAGE boy has suffered serious injuries after being knocked down by a car on the St Helens Linkway.
The collision, involving a Vauxhall Astra, happened at the dual carriageway's junction with Elton Head Road at about 8.30am.
The driver stopped at the scene.
A police statement read: “We are currently in St Helens following reports of a collision this morning, Wednesday, January 29.
“At around 8.30am, it was reported that a Vauxhall Astra had been in collision with a pedestrian on St Helens Linkway, near the junction with Elton Head Road.
“Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a 15-year-old boy, has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene to assist with enquiries.
“Road closures are currently in place from Micklehead Roundabout and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
A North West Ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called at 8.26am to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
"We sent a rapid response, an ambulance, the air ambulance, an advanced paarmedic and another clinician to the scene.
"We have treated a patient in his teens for serious injuries and taken him to hospital by road."
