RESIDENTS at Brookview Bupa Care Home in Alderley Edge spent the afternoon with four-legged friends.

Rummy and Rosie, American miniature ponies, met residents, family, friends and staff as part of the pet therapy programme being run across Bupa care homes.

Animal therapy has many benefits for the elderly, supporting physical, emotional and mental well-being.

The ponies stand 30 inches tall and wear special shoes for the inside and nappies to catch any accidents.

Jacqui Farrington, general manager of Brookview, said: “It was a great day for all to enjoy.

“Everyone loved interacting with the ponies and it was fantastic to see the smiles on the residents’ faces.”

Rummy and Rosie were visiting from R&R Therapy Ponies in Poynton.

Lisa Provart, from R&R, said: “We are huge animal lovers and really want to make a difference.

“It has been shown that animal-assisted therapy is very beneficial as physical contact with the animals encourages communication and can reduce stress and anxiety.”
