A 16-YEAR-OLD boy, inspired by taking part in a documentary alongside Stacey Dooley, has turned director himself after making a three part web reality show on his family.

Sam Evans from St Helens has had a passion for filmmaking since the age of seven, but wanted to use what skills he had to create a budget web series called 'Family Moments' – which is airing each week on Facebook.

His determination in this career started in 2016, when aged 13, he took part in a TV programme called Show Me What You're Made Of, presented by Stacey Dooley which saw five youths travel to South East Asia to experience life in factories and on plantations.

Media Production student Sam, said: "I really wanted to be on camera, but whilst filming for the show, my passion for camera operation grew and I realised what I wanted my future to look like.

"If I hadn't of done the show, I don't think I would have such a vivid idea of what I want to do in the future."

Inspired by his experience, Sam put the skills he has learned to the test and started creating, however, it to be cheap and the subject matter to be readily available...that's when he had the idea to film his family.

He said: "I'm on a budget, so working with family was a no brainer. In 2017, I came up with a web reality series called Family Moments, covering the daily lives of my family as I always have been a fan of reality television."

In August 2019, Sam put his ideas into action by setting up a Facebook page called The POWDA Network to share his content – and started filming in October with his mum Michelle, dad Paul, and sister Caitlin all appearing in it.

Sam added: "I created, edited, filmed and produced the show alone. I don't make any money from making shows like this, and it's all out of my love for creating entertaining content. My family are all supportive enough to let me document their lives on camera, to a public audience but filming the show takes a long time so it's exciting this is on now. I would love to get into television production and camera operation creating entertaining content for viewers to engage and interact with in the future."

Family Moments is available to watch via The POWDA Network on Facebook on Tuesdays from 8.30pm.

The first episode aired on Tuesday, January 21 and the second will air on Tuesday, January 28.
