FIVE fire crews have been fighting a roof blaze in Tabley today, Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to a home in Heyrose Lane - near Heyrose Golf Club - at 11.45am, to reports of a fire in a roof space.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On arrival crews discovered that the roof was on fire and that no-one was unaccounted for.

"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began using a hose reel jet to fight the fire.

"This escalated to four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using two hose reel jets to tackle the flames."

As of 1.30pm, firefighters had brought the fire in the roof under control, with three engines and the aerial ladder platform leaving the scene.

The gas supply to the property has been isolated, as has the majority of the electricity supply.

Firefighters have requested the attendance of Scottish Power to fully isolate the external electricity supply to the property.

The remaining fire crews are starting to damp down the areas affected by the fire and rip out charred materials.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun.

Update at 2.20pm - One fire engine remained in attendance, and firefighters were using a 13-and-a-half metre ladder to access and remove loose tiles.

Update at 2.45pm - The electricity supply to the property has been fully isolated by Scottish Power. Firefighters have completely exposed the areas affected by the fire. They are checking them for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.
