A TOWN centre opticians has closed its doors after trading in Northwich for more than 25 years.

Optisavers opened on Leicester Street in January 2017 following a move from Market Way, where it had been situated for 25 years.

A sign left on the door of the store reads: “This store is closed until further notice.”

But the company, which was founded in 1988, will not be reopening after going out of business, much to the surprise of its customers.

The company’s website is currently down and residents living in Chorley, Bootle and Crosby have also reported that their local Optisavers branch has closed.

Employees of the firm that have now lost their jobs have confirmed that the company has gone into administration when speaking to potential future employers.

The closure has also left many customers out of pocket, having ordered products from the company before its closure and not receiving them.

But a number of Northwich opticians have said that they will support those customers affected.

A spokesperson for Boots Opticians on Witton Street said: “We are genuinely sorry to see such a well-established business in Northwich has closed.

“For any patients who need any help and advice, please do not hesitate to pop into Boots.

“We are aware some people may not be able to get copies of prescriptions, etc, so we are offering a free sight test to any Optisavers patients.”

Bos Opticians, who are based on Chester Road, has also said on social media: “Such sad news for the staff and patients of Optisavers.

“Having to close your doors is hard at anytime, let alone right before Christmas.

“We would like to offer any patients of Optisavers who lost out on their deposits a 25 per cent discount on new glasses to try and help ease the blow.”
