GOOSTREY mum Jane Ainley is hoping to make a little girl’s Christmas dream come true.

The girl, who Jane knows only as Sofia, is aged about seven and is believed to be from the Kingston upon Thames area.

She was in the audience at the Apollo in the West End when Jane sat behind her in a family party from Goostrey.

Before the curtain opened for the musical Wicked Jane struck up a friendship with Sofia, who was born with a lung disorder and suffers from other serious health problems.

She told Jane, 49, she had been to Hamleys, the London toy store, and saw a doll’s winter chalet she would like for Christmas.

Jane said: "Sofia is a little girl with a lot of health problems, but despite all this she is an adorable happy child and melted my heart.

“In the interval she asked would I sing ‘Rudolph’ to her, and her mother said she loved Christmas songs and everything about Christmas.

"When the show ended Sofia gave me a big hug and we all left, but when I got home I couldn’t stop thinking about her Christmas wish for the doll's chalet."

Jane, who is registered disabled, asked close friends on Facebook if they would like to donate towards buying the present for Sofia, and within a day raised £250 needed for the doll's house.

When she called the theatre and the ticket agency for help finding the family's address through their seat numbers she was told nothing could be done because of data privacy laws.

Now, unless she can trace Sofia through other means the money will have to be returned and Jane will not be able to make her wish come true.

Jane added: "I feel such an idiot that I didn't think at the time about getting more details about Sofia and where she lived, but I think it was in the London area.

"I have tried everything I can to find Sofia's family, and have posted on every social media group I can think might help, but so far have drawn a blank.

“It will be heartbreaking if I have to return all the donations because she can't be found."

Jane would like the doll's house to arrive from Father Christmas.

Jane's daughter, Eleanor, 12, who also chatted with Sofia, said: "Mum got on really well with the little girl and is desperate to make her wish come true."
