WARRINGTON West station will open to passengers on Sunday with the first train leaving at 8.16am.

The Manchester Piccadilly to Liverpool Lime Street service leaves at 8.16am with the first train to Manchester departing at 9am.

The £20.5 million development in Chapelford was due to open in the summer before delays put it back to December.

Two trains an hour will leave in each direction through the day to Manchester and Warrington in one direction and Liverpool in the other.

Three had been promised when the station was first planned but Network Rail and train operator Northern say there is not enough capacity on the line, especially close to Manchester for that to happen.

As previously reported, the council ‘reluctantly agreed’ for services at Sankey for Penketh Station to be cut to just four trains per day as part of the development of the new site in Chapelford.

An official opening for the station will take place later next week.
