DAYLIGHT is flooding into the Weaver Square precinct as the removal of the 1960s shopping centre continues.

The first phase of works has already seen longstanding glass canopies removed, with this latest gap opened up following the removal of pitched-roof units near Claire’s.

This inaugural phase will see 10 units demolished, although no existing businesses will be affected. SEPTEMBER >>> Weaver Square demolition begins

A walkway will be maintained, with the work opening up a view from Watling Street through to the heart of Weaver Square.

Work – described as ‘a long time coming’ and ‘more good news for Northwich’ – began in September.

In a poll, 75 per cent of Guardian readers said they would be glad to see the back of Weaver Square.

Meanwhile, 17 per cent were against the demolition plans with eight per cent unsure.
