WYRD Sisters by Terry Pratchett is the Players' Christmas production. Performances are in the village hall at 7.30pm on December 12-14 with a matinee on Saturday, December 14 at 2.30pm.  Tickets are available from Barney’s Newsbox during shop hours - contactable on 015394 35627 - and on the door. Tickets are £10 and £5 for children and students.

CHRISTMAS readings, with prose, poetry and music, take place in the village hall on Friday, December 20. People should arrive at  7.30pm for an 8pm start. There is no charge for the evening and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie! This year’s charity collection will go to Smile Train.

ALLAN Bank is open Friday to Sunday, from 10.30am-4pm, until December 15. Join Glee for carols around the tree on Sunday, December 15 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.  The house and grounds will then remain closed for the season and reopen on February 15, 2020.

THE WI meet for Christmas lunch is today (Thursday) at Tweedies. People should arrive at 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

THE farmers' market on Friday, December 13 offers a chance to buy great local produce and handicrafts and join in some festive carol singing.

EVERYONE is invited to the school's Nativity service on Tuesday, December 17 at 2pm, and to the much-praised performance of A Midwinter Night's Dream on Thursday, December 19 at 6.30pm, both in St Oswald's Church.

WORDSWORTH Trust events start with the book group's discussion of E M Forster's Selected Stories on Thursday, December 12 at 8pm. A Handmaid's Tale on Saturday, December 14 at 2.30pm will examine the arts and crafts movement and the women of the Langdale linen industry. There is a talk on the women who created the Cottonian libraries on Tuesday, December 17 at 3.30pm. A class on finishing The Prelude will be held on Wednesday, December 18 at 2.15pm. There is a walk from Ambleside to Grasmere, celebrating the arrival of William and Dorothy in 1799, on Friday, December 20 at 1pm.  Grasmere residents are invited to the new café to enjoy carols, mulled wine and mince pies and to see Dove Cottage dressed for Christmas on Friday, December 20 from 2pm to 4pm.

ANTIQUE and Collectors' fairs during the year have raised £177 for the Red Squirrels Group. Thanks have been given to all who contributed.
