SIR - Although one could perhaps be forgiven for thinking the rule didn’t apply in Bradford, it is an offence to drive a motor vehicle whilst using a mobile ‘phone in the UK.
That said, is it similarly an offence for pedestrians to walk into the road whilst using mobile ‘phones?
The pavements near the roundabout at the bottom of Piccadilly, around the Midland Hotel, The Broadway Shopping Centre and the exit from Forster Square railway station are launch points for "phone zombies", who aimlessly, mindlessly, carelessly walk into the road with mobile ‘phones glued to their ears, some in charge of children and prams.
There, they step off the safety of the pavements into the road without looking, listening or any regard for traffic moving towards them, despite there being pedestrian crossings metres away.
But, it is not exclusive to these locations and happens all over the city.
Additionally, whilst on the subject of mayhem on our roads, which genius from our planning department thought it a good idea to make the rat-run that Stott Hill has become, one of the major thoroughfares into the city and, for fun, congest it with parking places just before it meets Bolton Road?
