STRICTLY judge Craig Revel Horwood got out his rarely seen 10 at the weekend – and Bury Hospice’s dancers are hoping for more flawless performances when they take to the dancefloor.

While the celebrities and their partners are counting on viewers’ votes to lift the Strictly trophy, the 18 brave couples taking part in Bury Hospice’s Strictly Best Foot Forward are trying to impress a different audience.

The couples – including hospice staff and volunteers – have been practising the salsa, cha cha cha, Argentine tango and rock ‘n’ roll to raise as much money as they can for the hospice’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

Many of those taking part know first-hand about the care provided by the hospice and have very moving reasons to get involved.

On Sunday, they were on stage at the Longfield Suite – the venue for the big event on Saturday – putting the finishing touches to their routines.

They have been rehearsing at A Touch of Class Dance Studio in Little Lever and instructors from other dance schools have also donated their time.

Now in its third year, the event has raised more than £100,000 for the hospice.

Organiser Deborah Lisle said: “It has been a huge effort over the past 12 weeks, but everyone is ready and looking forward to Saturday.

“It will be an emotional evening because of everything the dancers have put into it and also because of the reasons why many of them are taking part.

“The dancers have given so much, but so have A Touch of Class and the other instructors, as well as the volunteers and families who have helped it all come together.

“It is always a special night and we want to raise as much money as we can for the hospice.”
