AN iconic part of Weaver Square is no more, as the first phase of demolition work continues apace.
Much of the interior of 10 units has now been stripped, with the first building coming down next door to Hormbreys Butchers – which remains open – last week.

Notably, the largest glass canopy near the Seafarer has been dismantled, along with smaller covers and awning within the 1960s precinct.
The demolition began at the end of September, with a planned early December completion date.
Units being demolished are boxed in between the indoor market and Northwich Information Centre, backing onto the service yard accessed from Watling Street.

Hundreds had their say on a masterplan consultation in 2018, with Cheshire West and Chester Council saying ‘interesting ideas’ are being explored further with partners.
