VILLAGERS are celebrating at Lower Peover was awarded the Best Kept Village Award 2019.
At the 62nd competition organised by Cheshire Community Action, the village came out top in its category, for populations of between 401 and 600.
“Our success is something all residents and businesses should feel very proud about,” said parish councillor Alan Brown.
“The competition exemplifies the community spirit of the village, and emphasises how much effort goes into the upkeep of the village by local people.
“Thanks go to all those who contributed towards the award, including all the people who took part in the litter picks and decorated a gate in the village as part of the Celebration with Flowers event to commemorate 750 years since St Oswald’s Church was founded.
“One of these ‘decorate a gate’ arrangements in the churchyard was also honoured in the Little Gem Award category.”
Among the award criteria the village was marked on the overall appearance of its bus stops, school ground, churchyard, pub fronts and local businesses.
