DANIELLE Atherton is keeping construction in the family after joining David Wilson Homes’ Stanneylands development in Wilmslow, where her father Gary is a senior site manager.
Danielle, 22, from Wilmslow, joined the site team as a trainee assistant site manager in 2019 after deciding that pursuing a profession in construction was a rewarding career path.
Danielle said: “My dad has worked for David Wilson Homes since 2000, so it’s all I’ve ever known.
“The house we moved into when I was younger was on a building site. While growing up I was always helping my dad with his work as a joiner.”
Danielle also cited the increasing number of women in construction as a driving force behind her career choice.
She added: “I used to think construction was a bit of ‘a boy’s club.
“Since joining David Wilson Homes, however, I have seen a lot more women out on site and joining the construction industry.
“Everyone on site has so much respect for you and you don’t get treated differently.
“Working in construction is such a rewarding career path and there is always so much to learn.”
Robert Holbrook, managing director for David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are delighted that Danielle emulated her dad’s footsteps to join us as a trainee assistant site manager.
“As with all of our employees, she has our full backing to fulfil her career goals, and we look forward to the day when she makes the inevitable jump to senior site manager.”
